Soper's World
A Journey into the Canadian Arctic through Art

Welcome to Soper's World

Joseph Dewey Soper (1893–1982) was a Canadian explorer, naturalist and artist, who made important contributions to our understanding of Canada's northernmost regions.

During four separate Arctic expeditions in the 1920s–30s, and with the help of Inuit guides from Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin Island), Soper conducted detailed mapping surveys, and collected thousands of plant, animal and geological specimens that are now housed in Canadian museums.

Through his extensive collection of watercolour paintings, Soper's World tells the story of his life and adventures in the Arctic.
